50 Cent's Clever Cameo

Social media really has a LOT to answer for, in terms of creating hoards of online "celebs" desperate for their 5 minutes (and sometimes more) of fame!! It really is incredible seeing how many people have watched the 'Top Rated' videos, which usually hit the 7 or 8 figure mark!!

One pint-sized Youtube star that I came across today was that of, Keenan Cahill, a 15 year old 'wannabe rapper' from Chicago, Illinois. His claim to fame is posting videos of his favourite songs on Youtube whilst popping some slick dance moves and lip-syncing along to them - which he has already entertained 30 million Youtube users with!!

It seems obscene that 30 million people would watch these inane videos, however, on the flip side, 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) clearly saw a very clever and unique advertising opportunity for his new song, "Down on Me" featuring Jeremih. Keenan's latest video of "Down on Me" was screened on the Chelsey Lately show last month which features 50 Cent joining in with Keenan halfway through the song, lipsyncing and dancing along! The video has already surpassed 11,500,000 hits and increasing rapidly! With Youtube being a huge storage system for all of these types of videos, I can imagine it to be live for a while to come!

This is fantastic free publicity for 50 Cent as he not only is tapping into and exposing his song to the wide following that Keenan has created, but it also does wonders for his reputation since it is commendable that such a huge hiphop star would feature in an online video with a disabled fan of his!

I believe this, and other examples of the popularity of these amateur videos, should make large brands wonder how they could this social media tool to their advantage. Perhaps using these cost efficient, ie. FREE,  methods of advertising could be beneficial to their company and enable them to see the feedback from their consumers - we all know that the customer is always right! Certainly there are huge opportunities for brands out there with these new social media platforms, they just need to tap into them!

For a bit of light relief, you can see Keenan and 50 Cent in action below:

Consumerism Gone Mad?

I was honestly appalled tonight whilst watching Kirsty and Phil on Channel 4, as they were reviewing the top video cameras for children. Firstly, surely any sane parent wouldn't entrust a child of 7 with such a luxury product and secondly, unless your child is the next budding Spielberg, the calibre of video footage taken certainly couldn't justify the high price tag!

Young children are by far the most materialistic demographic group and therefore parents are put under an awful a lot of pressure to provide this years latest and greatest Christmas presents. Not only this but I believe it could present a high risk to young children by enabling paedophiles to easily conceal and discretely prey on their victims.

Only recently released, "Video Girl" Barbie doll, brought out by world renowned toy maker, Mattel, has already been publicly criticised by all major media outlets. The microscopic video camera, hidden in Barbie's chest (of all places!!), can take up to 30 minutes of real time recording to be viewed or uploaded to a computer. Retailing at £59.99, it seems to me like an overpriced piece of plastic that will most likely be on the top of every little girls wishlist this Christmas! However, make no mistake about it, it was certainly a unique idea and Video Girl Barbie has been nominated for "The 2011 Toy of the Year Award". So, watch this space!

Congratulations Stacey!!

Yesterday saw the crowing of the new Queen of the Jungle - Stacey Solomun. Although I wouldn't call myself an AVID watcher of 'I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here', I most certainly believe the best celeb won! Live television is a blessing in these cases since the nation could see her genuine reaction to the news, which in my opinion, was complete disbelief and shock that she had been victorious over Happy Mondays singer, Shaun Ryder!

Stacey is no stranger to success, as she came third in last year's X factor. So what did the bookies see,  making her no.1 favourite to win after the first episode, that the public didn't cotton on to until the final coming weeks on the show?

Characteristics that Stacey showed throughout the 3 weeks in the jungle were made up of a fantastic balance of determination and grit together with a down to earth, chirpy personality making her the most loveable character to watch. Her enthusiasm to the gruesome Bushtucker trials was infectious and she gained respect from all of her campmates not to mention, the public.

I think that many people could do very well from taking a leaf of out Stacey's book. She has a winning attitude to all mundane tasks and never sees the bad in anyone - not even Gillian McKeith!!! I am most certainly a Stacey Solomun convert and wish her well throughout her reborn celeb career!
